Uploading XML Currency Rates from CurrencyXchanger (CXR) to a website via FTP

In this
video, I’m going to show you how to upload rates from
CurrencyXchanger to a website. so what I’m gonna do is just show you on Clear View System’s
website where an example of some companies who are
actually using this tool to display their current
rates on their website. So I’m just gonna click right
into Clear View Systems. And underneath their products, we can scroll down to Sample
Currency Display Rates and just click on one of
these examples right here. It now takes me to the
Vester Exchange website where they’re actually
displaying their current rates, and they’re using that
tool from CurrencyXchanger to update those. This could be done periodically. It can be set to do automatically, and I’m gonna show you how
to do all that right now. So let’s get started. In your modules, you need
to find the FilePaths. so just down in my drop-down here, I’m just gonna locate FilePaths module. Once in here, you’ll see
that we don’t actually have any created yet, so let’s start by creating
one right now for our rates. On your toolbar, you click on New, and then click into the first field. You’ll get a drop-down where
you can select what you want the file path to be identified as. So we have the XMLFolderPath, which is what we want to create
for our rates to be saved. So select okay. We’re gonna leave the filename blank, and now we need to create
or show the exchange where we will need to find
that in the directory, so I’m gonna click on
the Browse Folder button. And I have a folder labeled rates that I’m going to select, and then click Open. Now we’ve got the directory path. We need to actually put the
workstation name in here because different
workstations could potentially have different directories
for these same rates on their workstation, so
I’m just going to click on the button Stamp Name, and that will just populate
my current workstation that I’m working on, and
then I can click on Save. So now you see that we
have created a file path for our rates to be saved
into in the FilePaths module. So now we want to go
into the currency module, so clicking on the Currency icon. And once in here, what I’m
going to do is I’m gonna get the most updated rates that
we have from the market. So down in the bottom,
we’re gonna click on the button Update Rates. Once this has been done, I’m now going to show
you in our rates folder that’s just on my desktop that we have file being created and saved and put into this folder because I just created the file path to tell CurrencyXchanger
to save the updated rates into this folder. So that’s step one. Now that we’ve done this successfully, we want to go into our server preferences, so up on your toolbar
and you select on File and then Server Preferences. We can now set those or configure the FTP parameters on where we’re going to now
upload the information to. So this will be specific to your website and what your URL is and your
username and your password. So I’ve filled mine in for mine. You’ll notice that we
have Automatically Upload the XML rates to the
FTP Server right here, so you want to select that. We also have these two
check boxes right here. If I select Update Currency
Rates Automatically, I can then set how often I want
it to automatically do that, so CurrencyXchanger will
just do every 15 minutes an update of our rates, and then it will upload
that to the website and display that on our display board. And then we also need to
make sure we select the box Publish the XML Rates, so
I’m just gonna hit Apply. And then up under Test FTP Setting, we just want to make sure that this works, so we’re gonna click on that button. And you’ll see that the
upload was successful, so that’s great there. Everything’s working
for that to be uploaded, so then I can just save my settings. Now, if I want to not wait the 15 minutes and upload my rates to
the website, I can do so by down in our bottom right
corner in our currency module, and then I can just click Publish Rates. Once I do this, that will then automatically
upload the latest rates onto your website, onto
your display board. If you happen to change
one of your currencies, you go into your currency, you edit it, you change one of the rates manually, and then you save that, and you want to just
update that rate as well. You can click on Publish
Rates one more time, and then you can upload it again.
